Honed is a cognitive training application designed to do what most brain training apps promise but fail to deliver: produce skills that transfer to real-world performance.
The Problem
Most brain training apps improve your score on the app itself but produce no measurable improvement in general cognitive ability. The science calls this the "near transfer" problem - you get better at the game, not at thinking.
The Approach
Honed is built on the research framework developed in Dr. Bullock's book Far Transfer. It uses evidence-based training protocols specifically designed to maximize far transfer - the ability to apply trained skills in entirely new contexts.
Status
In active development. The research framework is established and the training protocol design is underway.
Technical Stack
Built as a progressive web app with gamification mechanics inspired by Duolingo's engagement model but applied to cognitive science protocols.
